Support Our Dragonboat Team!

The teachers, teaching assistants and various family members and friends of St Andrew’s are taking part in a Dragnoboat Festival on Sunday 12th June in Bristol (please come and cheer us on!). So far, we’ve had one after-school training session in the classroom using children’s chairs to resemble a dragonboat and hockey sticks for paddles! We’ve also had one session on the water which involved getting very wet and rowing 200m in 1 minute 35 seconds. We have one training session left until the big race – we are a competitive bunch and we want to win!

Watch our team in action:

Half of all of the money we raise will be going directly to our wonderful school. Anything you can manage to donate will go towards a new Special Needs room and developing the Courtyard area. We really appreciate all your support – please visit this website if you’d like to donate.

Year 4 go to Jamie Oliver’s

Year 4 have been on a trip to Jamie Oliver’s restaurant in Bath as part of his ‘Food Revolution’ project. The children looked at the sugar content of popular cereals before making their own, did a ‘food group’ quiz, and had a tour of the restaurant – including behind the scenes (kitchens, walk in fridges etc). They even had a cheesy omelette for a late breakfast.

The children were very pleased with their free water bottles and the fact that they could take home a goodie bag which included the cereal they’d made, fresh pasta, a recipe pamphlet and a badge!

Mrs Shoubridge was very impressed with their knowledge of food as well as their beautiful manners whilst eating omelettes and when asking for more/less!

The photos below show Year 4 preparing their own cereal, identifying vegetables, meeting the chef, exploring the walk-in fridge and tucking into their omelettes.

Robot Club Builds Mini Vehicles

In the spirit of STEAM week, we’re highlighting the amazing robots made by the Robot Club. In small teams, the children have been building and programming small vehicles. Their techie creations will have wheels attached, and even eyes to see with!

It took only four weeks to build the 4tronix robots, and the children are now programming them using school laptops and Ubuntu software.

The club is on Wednesdays before school. Click here to see the programming in action!

World Book Day

To be, or not to be, that is the question…

This year’s World Book Day had a Shakespearian and Elizabethan theme. We loved all the amazing costumes – the school was filled with kings, queens, fairies from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and of course, Harry Potter.

The children even did a special performance of Hamlet in the school assembly!

Foundation Stage visit the Zoo!

FS had a wonderful time at the zoo. Everyone took part in a Minibeast workshop and held giant stick insects and cockroaches! We enjoyed seeing the lions and meerkats too. The children’s behaviour was exemplary! Thank you to all the parents that joined us.
