Year 6: Ancient Greece, Philosophy and Celebrating Difference

Year 6 have had a busy start to the term. As well as working hard during our assessment week, we have begun a new study into Ancient Greece – exploring the different city states and colonies that existed thousands of years ago. Our key question is: Why did the Ancient Greeks think so much – and which ideas can did we learn from?

We have explored democracy and engaged our critical thinking to discuss whether Ancient Greece was a really a democracy by today’s standards. Our favourite moment has been our first Philosophy discussion, using the P4C (Philosophy for Children) model, in which we posed the question: what does normal look like? This formed the introduction to our PSHE study, and kickstarted our focus on ‘celebrating difference’ as part of Anti-Bullying Week. We then explored the different communities we all felt part of as a way of analysing the concept of ‘belonging’.
