Bumble Bees: Independent Learning & Phonics

Even though this first term is one of the longest it seems to have passed very quickly in Reception.  At the same time It seems incredible that it was only eight weeks ago that the children started on their part time hours as they now all seem very settled and have adapted very quickly to life at St. Andrew’s.

Whilst the children have developed very quickly in many areas we have been particularly impressed with the development of their social skills; they have shown that they can play together in a group, taking turns, sharing and listening to each other’s ideas. They have also shown themselves to be good learners when developing independence skills such as serving themselves during snack time.

We have completed our first term of phonics, the children have learnt twenty sounds already, they are using this knowledge to read short words, and some children are now showing an interest in writing.

We hope you and your children enjoy a good break and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 2.
