Ladybirds: Easter, Ramadan and Maths
Easter has come round very quickly! We have taken the castle idea from a model to a large Castle play house! The children used a variety of techniques to create the effect of the outside wall including: block printing with sponges, gluing strips of boarder paper for brickwork and wavy strip along the top to create battlements.
We have talked a lot about Ramadan and the festival of Eid with our Norland Nanny giving us an insight as she was fasting. The children were amazed that you couldn’t eat or drink all day.
We have looked at Aesop’s fables, talking about the story of the North Wind and the Sun which brought out good conversations about how good it is to show kindness. We also read the story of the Crow and the Pitcher which we followed up in maths, building on water volume and sinking and floating objects – which was a great activity with a lot of debate with seemingly heavy wooden blocks! – looking at water displacement – what happens when you put large objects into a jug half full of water. How many will we need to put in to overflow the jug.
In the last week we have been celebrating Easter with Easter hunt stories, all the children have had the opportunity to go on an Easter Egg hunt, Easter Bonnet making and Easter cards. A very Happy Easter to all!
