The First Ever Young Interpreters at St Andrew’s!

Congratulations to Heidi, Vanesa, Stella, Kevin, Lena, Maya, Greta and Maria who have successfully passed the training course (with flying colours!) to become the first Young Interpreters of the school. Their role is primarily to welcome and support new arrivals, with little or no English, to St Andrew’s. Like many of our children, these children speak two or more languages each and have proved to be kind and excellent communicators – not just with words but with images, gestures and body language.

We celebrated their achievements with the whole school and their families in assembly, where they were presented with a special badge and notebook to help them in their role.

Did you know that 24 different languages are spoken at St Andrew’s and that 43% of our community have English as an Additional Language (EAL)? We think this is one of the many things that makes St Andrew’s so special.
