Year 1: Space & Sports
Year 1 have had a lovely end to the term. They have been such a wonderful class to teach and it has been an absolute pleasure to be their teacher since joining St Andrew’s in January.
We have continued our Space theme and have been learning all about Neil Armstrong and the Moon landing in History. In Maths, we have been exploring many different themes and have recently revisited 3D shapes. The children loved working in pairs to create their own 3D shapes using plasticine and lollipop sticks in a cross-curricular DT and Maths activity.
In English, we have been inspired by the wonderful book Look Up! and have written our own flyers advertising a meteor shower viewing. The children have loved using exciting vocabulary to persuade people to come along and watch this spectacular event.
Sports Day was a real highlight of the term. I was so impressed by how well the children encouraged and supported each other throughout the day. They showed fantastic sportsmanship, and it was lovely to see them celebrating each other’s successes.
Finally, I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all of your support this year. I have absolutely loved teaching your children, and you made me feel so welcome when I joined the St Andrew’s community. We still have lots of lovely things to look forward to as we celebrate the end of Year 1 together, and I know the children will enjoy making some more special memories over the final few days.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer holiday!
