Year 2: Out & About

We have been so busy in Year 2 this term.

We had a wonderful morning at the Literature Festival. The children were dazzled by the Guildhall building – its grand halls and intricate details left everyone amazed.

The highlight, a lively session with the author and illustrator of Adventure Mice. The children were captivated by the storytelling and loved learning about a new, creative way to design a story.

To top it all off, they had great fun drawing their very own monsters – a perfect blend of imagination and inspiration!

Fun-Filled Trip to the Egg Theatre!

Year 2 had a wonderful afternoon at the Egg Theatre watching the captivating performance of Shed-Ache. The children were amazed by the brilliant stage choreography and found the actors both fun and inspiring.

Back in class, we had a great discussion about the show. The children were especially impressed by how the actors used facial expressions to show their emotions, and how the story was told through music, sounds, and actions – without using any words! It was a truly magical experience that sparked lots of creative thinking and imagination.

Writing

The children have learnt how to use story mapping and oral rehearsal to help them retell and write a complete story. We have particularly enjoyed reading Orion and the Dark.  Using their story maps, the children confidently wrote the whole story in their books, showing great understanding of structure and sequencing. Alongside this, we’ve had lots of fun exploring space! The children loved learning space facts and used their knowledge to create informative and engaging fact files.

Out and about in Bath – Geography

We had a fantastic time exploring the local area as part of our geography work. We set off on a local walk to investigate both human and physical features—spotting things like shops, parks, trees, parks, houses, and roads along the way. Back in class, the children used what they had seen to draw detailed maps of the area, including landmarks and key features. It was a fun and engaging way to bring geography to life, and the maps they created were fantastic!
