Year 2: Peace, Remembrance & Beebots
As part of our work exploring what the school value of peace means to us – both personally and as a collective – we have been looking at the Bible story of Noah and the symbol of peace brought by the dove. The children have reflected on where they find peace in their own lives and then designed and created beautiful stained-glass windows to represent what peace means to them.
As part of this mini-project, we also thought about peace in our world and discussed how we can contribute, both individually and collectively, to building a more peaceful global community.
Our beautiful Remembrance assembly, led by Miss Sandey, was a poignant time to remember the people and families who have given up so much for us to live in a peaceful world. The children made wonderful poppies using balloons and red tissue paper, which were later popped and held a candle inside.
The children walked respectfully into the assembly and placed their poppy candles in a wreath around the prayer table. We were so proud of how they did this with such self-control, thoughtfulness, and empathy for the moment.
In computing we have had lots of fun thinking about algorithms and how they can be the same set of instructions but if they are out in different order we end up in different places. We have been excited to use the Beebots and exploring how they respond to instructions. We have worked well collaboratively to find solutions. We are super excited to be finding out more in the coming weeks.
In PE we have been learning different ways to use out hands to control equipment like a ball in basketball and also different throwing techniques. we had fun throwing for accuracy as well as for distance.
