Year 2: RE & Communication

This term in RE, we have been exploring what Christians believe about the ‘Good News’ Jesus offered through friendship, forgiveness, and peace. Our Big Question has been: “What is the Good News that Jesus brings?”

Throughout our lessons, the children have examined examples from Jesus’ life and teachings, reflecting on how Christians try to live out these messages in their everyday lives.

In our final session, the children learned about prayer: what it is, how Christians pray, and why prayer is important to them. They took part in thoughtful, practical activities that helped them consider the value of forgiveness, friendship, and peace in their own lives.

The children also wrote some beautiful, heartfelt prayers, showing great sensitivity and understanding of the themes we explored.

This term, the children have enjoyed diving into the fascinating world of communication through history. Our topic has been filled with curiosity and plenty of hands-on learning.

We began by plotting a chronology of different communication methods, starting with human messenger then carrier pigeons and moving through to the development of the telephone, before finally exploring the invention of the internet and emails. The children were amazed to see how communication has changed over time and how each new method has made it easier for people to connect with one another.

A particular highlight was learning Morse code. The children practised writing their names and even created messages for their friends to decode.

We also explored the world of letters and the postal system. The children learnt about stamps, how letters travel through the post, and the important job postal workers do each day. They enjoyed discovering how people communicated long before mobile phones and computers.

Cormac, Esme and Joel are the first of our Year 2 children to get times table certficates.  Cormac got a silver award and answered over 60 questions correctly in 1 minute. Esme and Joel were awarded Bronze certificates getting 40 and 25 answers correct respectively.

Over the past few weeks, the children have been busily rehearsing for our much-anticipated Nativity performance, which we hope will be enjoyed by everyone who comes to watch. Their dedication and enthusiasm have shone through each and every rehearsal.

The children have been brilliant at learning the songs, adding actions, remembering their lines, and bringing real sparkle to their performance. Their hard work has truly paid off, and the final result is something very special.

We are incredibly proud of the children – their energy, confidence, and teamwork have made this Nativity wonderfully memorable. Well done, Year 2! You have all been absolutely brilliant.
