Year 3: Pizzas & Drumming
In Science this term, Year 3 have been learning all about nutrition and the importance of a balanced diet. To make our learning hands-on, we became chefs for the day and created our own pizzas. While enjoying the delicious results, we also investigated the nutrients in each ingredient. From the carbohydrates in the dough to the protein in the cheese and the vitamins in the fresh vegetables, the children discovered how different foods help our bodies grow strong and stay healthy.
Last week we started our new class book- The Skull by Jon Klassen. We launched the book with a mysterious ‘feel’ box. The children were amazed to find a human skull inside! We used the front cover to make predictions about the character and plot. This week we have been writing setting descriptions of the wintery forest in which the story takes place. We have been using adverbs and expanded noun phrases to build atmosphere.
Year 3 have been enjoying their djembe drumming sessions this term. The children have been learning how to play steady rhythms and explore different patterns on the drums. This week, we added a seasonal twist by starting to play along to some favourite Christmas songs. It’s been wonderful to see the class working together, listening carefully, and creating joyful music that gets everyone in the festive spirit.
