Year 3: Romans

Year 3 had such an amazing time at the Roman Baths and Museum that they wanted to share even more of their experience, this time through pictures!
Look out for our budding archaeologists as they reconstruct the grand Temple and Courtyard of the goddess Sulis Minerva and dig for Roman artefacts. Spot our innovative engineers testing the strength of Roman arches. Watch our bold builders experiment with pulleys and counterweights to lift heavy blocks of limestone. Be amazed by our talented designers as they recreate stunning marble mosaics, just like those found in the Roman Baths.
Take a look at some cool Roman fashion – did you know looking good in those days involved enormous sheets of fine wool and a solid grasp of origami? Then, gaze deeply into the Great Drain, built by Roman engineers and stained orange from the heated, mineral-rich waters that have been flowing through this incredible structure for over 2,000 years.
Back in the classroom, Year 3 have been busy publishing their own Non-Chronological Reports to illustrate the lasting impact of the Romans in Britain and Bath. Along the way, we’ve been intrigued to learn how Roman inventions are hidden in our vocabulary. We’ve discovered Aqueduct means ‘to carry water’ and hypocaust means ‘to heat from below’. The Roman didn’t just build amazing things, they shaped our language too!
