Year 3: Spring Creativity
This term, Year 3 have been expressing their creativity across the curriculum, drawing inspiration from the change from Winter to Spring and from our learning about Roman life in Bath
As illustrators, the children have created beautiful paintings in response to the poem ‘Cherry Blossom’ by Nicola Davies. Alongside developing colour‑mixing and collage skills, our close observations of nature have helped us reflect on the Christian message of Easter, celebrating themes of hope, renewal, and new life. The whole class was delighted to share this joyful poem alongside their wonderful artwork with you at our Easter service on Monday. We’ve included a few ‘behind‑the‑scenes’ moments from our classroom to show all the hard work and imagination that went into their creative celebration of Spring.
During our trip last term to the Roman Bath Complex, Year 3 studied the remains of the Temple of Minerva, identifying carved features showing the Roman goddess Minerva alongside ………an owl! We discovered that the owl represents wisdom, insight, and learning and was used by the Romans as a special symbol linked to Minerva. This helped the children understand how Roman beliefs were expressed through architecture and imagery. Inspired by this learning, Year 3 have been developing their clay‑handling skills to create their own owl sculptures. They learned how to mould clay to form 3D shapes and used a range of tools and techniques to add texture and detailed features such as eyes, ears, beaks, wings, and feathers. We are sure you will agree that we have very talented group of budding sculptors in Year 3!
It has been wonderful to see the children produce such thoughtful, imaginative, and joyful work this term. Well done, Year 3!
