Year 4: Anglo-Saxons and the water cycle

What a hive of activity it has been in Year 4. Over the last couple of weeks, we have collaged the journey of the river and learnt lots of new vocabulary including meander, confluence, source, and mouth.  The artwork was the product of a fantastic morning’s work  which showcased the wonderful creative team efforts of the whole class.  In our learning on the Anglo-Saxons, we’ve learnt about Anglo-Saxon clothing and had a go at dying wool with natural vegetable dyes made from red cabbage and onion skins. The class have also learnt about society was organised in Anglo-Saxon times from the slaves and churls to the kings. In Geography, we’ve also learnt about the water cycle, set up 3 different water cycle experiments and written free verse poems inspired by the books Once Upon a Raindrop and All the Water in the World. On top of this, we’ve had a fantastic exploratory session looking at area in Maths which included revisiting key vocabulary, understanding the difference between perimeter and surface area, and investigating how different rectilinear shapes can have the same area.
