Year 4: Frank Stella’s Artwork

Year 4 have been exploring the bold, dynamic world of Frank Stella as their focus artist this term – drawing inspiration from his vibrant shapes, layers and energetic compositions to create their very own 3D relief sculptures. Using a range of mixed media, the children experimented with form, texture and colour, building artworks that burst with movement and individuality.
Linking with science learning,  the class looked closely at the fascinating structures of microscopic life. From spirals and clusters to geometric patterns, they transformed scientific observation into artistic expression, echoing Stella’s playful abstraction while staying rooted in real scientific forms.
Throughout the project, the children showed impressive creativity and perseverance. They analysed their developing pieces thoughtfully, adapting and refining their ideas as they went. The results are wonderfully imaginative sculptures that celebrate both artistic flair and scientific curiosity; an exciting showcase of Year 4’s growing skills across the curriculum!
