Year 4 Viking Longships and Anglo-Saxon Breadmaking

Year 4 have enjoyed a wonderful couple of weeks of learning in the classroom.  The children have finally completed their Viking longships and the results are testament to the hours of work that they put into creating them alongside Mrs Ange. They had to design the head of their Viking longship, create an authentic shape for the boat, create detachable shields, design oars, and importantly, work out a way of attaching their mast to the base of the ship and add a sail which remained static in order to propel the boat forward.

As well as creating these boats, the class have managed to fit in learning about Anglo-Saxon food and as part of the lesson, they baked their own Anglo-Saxon bread which they ate with honey. We’ve been listening and responding to Benjamin Britten’s Storm Interlude in music and developing a dance to Viking War drum music by Pawl de Beats in Dance.
