Year 4: Vikings and rivers

What a fun-filled couple of weeks we’ve had back in Year 4. There has been lots of practical investigation around sound as we investigate how we hear sound and the relationship between pitch and volume. What with the drums, recorders, and tuning forks, it’s been hard to hear ourselves think! In Geography, the class have been learning all about the journey of a river which involved observing how river travels downhill from a height and tracking the journey of the River Avon using Google Maps. In History, we’ve begun our very exciting topic on the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We’ve created a timeline of British history, located where the Anglo-Saxons originated from and developed our understanding of the factors which affected their invasion and settlement. As part of our learning on Vikings, we’ve begun to learn about Viking longships, modelled a ship in the playground and the class have begun to think about how they could build a boat to float using cardboard. In English, we’ve written, edited and published short stories inspired by the opening pages of Arthur and the Golden Rope and in maths, we’ve been using our multiplication facts to multiply 3 digit with 1 digit numbers.
