Year 5: Curriculum Confidence

Year 5 have had a busy and enjoyable term with lots of great learning across the curriculum. It has been lovely to see the children showing confidence and enthusiasm in their work.
In English, we have been reading The Windrush Child and using it to help us write our own leaflets. The children have focused on organising their ideas clearly and using persuasive language.
In Geography, we have been learning about time zones. The children enjoyed looking at maps and working out time differences between countries. We have also learned about the international date line and how a new day starts at different times around the world.
In Science, we have been learning about space. We have explored why the Sun is so important for life on Earth and looked at different objects in space, including asteroids. The class demonstrated several important scientific skills, including asking questions, sorting and comparing.
In Maths, we have been learning how to use a protractor to measure angles. The children have learned about the technical names for different angles and used known facts to find missing values. We have also been identifying and comparing regular and irregular polygons.
In PSHE, we have talked about self-esteem and the importance of looking after our mental health. We have discussed ways to stay positive, manage our feelings, and support each other as a class.
In RE, we have been learning about Sikhism and its key beliefs. The children have shown respect and interest while learning about different traditions and values.
For PE this term we have been showing good sportsmanship during both our Athletics and Rounders lessons. The children have been building their fitness as well as working on their fielding skills.
Well done to everyone for their continued hard work this term!
