Year 5: Lots of Learning & Swimming
Year 5 have had a busy few weeks and have made excellent progress with their learning. In English, the children have been reading the graphic novel version of Tom’s Midnight Garden. We have enjoyed exploring the story through pictures and text, and they have used it as inspiration to write their own narratives full of imagination and detail.
In maths, the class have been working with decimals, practising all four operations and learning how to solve problems using their new skills. They have shown great focus and determination on some challenging topics.
Our science lessons have been all about gravity. The children carried out an experiment to see whether objects of the same shape and size but different masses fall at the same time. They loved making predictions, testing them out and discussing what they discovered.
In history, we have travelled back to the very beginning of human life, learning about the first humans and their features. We have studied primary sources and the chronology of the Stone Age. The children have been fascinated by how early people lived and how we know about them today.
The class have also started learning the ukulele. They have shown brilliant enthusiasm as they begin to master plucking the strings, rhythm and pitch. We will continue working on this over the coming weeks.
Finally, Year 5 have been swimming and have represented the school beautifully on their walks to and from the pool. Their progress in the water has been fantastic, with many children improving their strokes and confidence. They should all feel very proud of themselves.
Well done Year 5!
