Year 5: Reading, Maths & Dodgeball
Well done Year 5 for having a great start to the term!
In English, we began reading our exciting new book, The Rooftoppers. We explored the main characters and discussed their personalities and motivations. To deepen our understanding, we started writing formal letters to one of the characters, practising our letter-writing skills and using formal language. The children showed great creativity and attention to detail in their writing!
In Maths, we concluded our work on fractions by adding, subtracting, and comparing them. We have now started learning the written method of multiplication, focusing on how to multiply larger numbers step by step.
In Science, the children carried out exciting investigations to test different materials. We explored properties such as magnetism, electrical conductivity, and more. The class enjoyed predicting, testing, and recording their findings.
In Music, we focused on rhythm while exploring Adele’s song Make You Feel My Love. The children practised keeping a steady beat and following rhythm patterns. They continued to develop their listening skills and musical timing.
In PSHE, we thought about our dreams and goals for the future. We reflected on what they would like to achieve and discussed steps they can take to reach these goals. We also considered the roles and jobs that we might have in the future.
In Art, we learned about metopes, with a special focus on The Circus in Bath. We explored the designs and patterns on these historical sculptures, discussing the shapes, symbols, and what they represent.
As part of our PE this term, we have started a unit on dodgeball. We have been practising our over arm throw, focusing on power and accuracy.
In Geography, we considered the importance of trees and how they support the environment. Pupils decided on the main reasons why trees are important and created a poster to represent this.
Well done to all Year 5 pupils for their hard work, creativity, and curiosity over the past two weeks!
