Year 5: Tomorrow Be Brave at the Abbey and 44AD

Y5 children chose Betty Webb as their Hero for this project with The Commonwealth Society and 44AD. We were impressed to find out that she had worked at Bletchley Park as one of the ‘Enigma Code Breakers’!
Our artwork was inspired by the machine itself, and the children used clay to create the keys of the enigma machine. The keys spell out our personal thank you to Betty Webb, as you can see! The ribbon is an addition to the art work that links to the medals Betty achieved for her efforts, both an MBE and Legion d’ honneur.
Year 5 attended the Abbey Service on Armistice Day and ahead of this, were thrilled that Betty Webb herself (at 101 years old!) had sent us a copy of her book: No More Secrets, My Part in Codebreaking at Bletchley Park and The Pentagon. The artwork is displayed in 44AD Artspace (next to Abbey Square) until the 16th November, we hope you can visit and see it!
