Year 6: Creation & Evolution

Year 6 have been studying all things Creativity, and all things great and small. How did the Earth begin? Where did we come from? How do animals adapt and evolve to survive? Can beliefs in Creation and the science of Cosmology co-exist?
In Science, we investigated through a fun activity what it was like for the finches in Darwin’s study of the Galapagos Islands. We used different types of ‘beak’ to pick up different types of ‘food’ to understand why animals need to adapt and evolve. We also studied the fossils records of whales – discovering that they once walked on land! Some children have shared some superb research from their Home Learning challenge too.
In R.E. We have learned about Christian beliefs in Creation, while also exploring how Christians may take evidence from the bible in different ways, and questioned how this can co-exist with knowledge of evolution and cosmology. As philosophers (P4C), we held some excellent discussions around some BIG ideas, and used our critical, creative and collaborative thinking skills to try and tackle tricky questions.
