Teaching Online Safety

We use Project Evolve, a nationally recognised digital education toolkit based on the UK Council for Internet Safety’s Education for a Connected World framework. Pupils explore a range of key themes, including:

• Self-image and identity – understanding how we present ourselves online
• Online relationships – communicating safely and respectfully
• Online bullying – recognising, responding to and reporting concerns
• Privacy and security – keeping personal information safe
• Managing online information – questioning reliability and accuracy
• Health, wellbeing and lifestyle – managing screen time and digital balance
• Online reputation – understanding digital footprints
• Copyright and ownership – respecting others’ work

Lessons include discussion-based activities, real-life scenarios and critical thinking tasks, helping pupils to reflect on their choices and develop positive online behaviours.

Alignment with Jigsaw PSHE

Online safety is also woven throughout our Jigsaw PSHE curriculum, ensuring that pupils develop a strong understanding of wellbeing, relationships and personal responsibility.

Through Jigsaw, children learn to:

• Recognise and manage risks, including those linked to social media and online communication
• Build resilience, assertiveness and confidence to seek help
• Understand consent, respect and healthy relationships in both online and offline contexts
• Explore current issues such as cyberbullying, peer pressure and digital influence

We recognise that online safety is most effective when schools and families work together. Technology and online platforms are evolving rapidly, particularly with developments in social media and artificial intelligence (AI), which can present both opportunities and risks for children.
