Year 3: English, Art & RE

In English, we read The Dot by Peter Reynolds and then wrote our own captions to retell Vashti’s inspiring journey of self discovery and courage. Our imaginations soared as we crafted sentences about all kinds of dots – a polka-dotted ladybird, an old magical clock, a spinning green planet or even a sticky round lollipop! Embracing Vashti’s message to “just make a mark and see where it takes you,” our young artists went on to create vibrant, dot-inspired paintings that celebrated individuality and creativity.
This week in Art, we’ve turned our gaze to the beauty of Autumn. Using oil pastels and watercolours, we studied fallen leaves and worked with great focus to capture their rich, seasonal colours – burnt oranges, golden yellows, and deep reds and purples. The results are stunning – and we hope you’ll agree!
In R.E. Year 3 began their enquiry into Santana Dharma by considering the importance of water and looking at some famous rivers. They watched and listened to the Weiner Philharmonika Orchestra (conducted by the world-famous Daniel Barenboim) playing a classical piece of music by the Czech composer Smetana. The music describes the course of the River Moldau – from a tiny bubbling stream to a full and mighty river and its eventual opening out into the ocean. As they listened, they created models with playdough to express the music or water theme.
