Diversity at St Andrew’s

On Thursday 22nd February, parents and carers were welcomed to a launch event for the Diversity at St Andrew’s School Focus Group – a parent-led initiative. A group of parents is working with the school on ideas to widen and diversify the curriculum especially in relation to race equality.

In summer 2023, three parents carried out an audit of diversity in Nursery classroom library books. This was a pilot looking at books children read within their classroom and take home and share with their parents/carers. Following this audit, in Autumn 2023, the focus group worked with the school to supply 147 new diverse and inclusive classroom library books for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Funding was available via a generous donation from Christ Church, Bath.
At the event on Thursday morning, parents presented data from the book audit, everyone had an opportunity to see the new classroom picture books, and there was also discussion about potential next steps for the project.
Please contact Tam Stephen if you would like to find out more or get involved. The audit findings report is also available on request.
