Year 3: Celebrating Diwali

In RE, Y3 have been busy making beautiful lanterns to help us appreciate and reflect on Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights. We’ve explored some of the customs, traditions and beliefs associated with the festival – including a Diwali dance!

We’ve been thinking about the  significance of symbols such as diyas (lamps) and discovered they represent the triumph of light over darkness. We’ve also studied rangoli patterns, which are thought to bring good fortune.

All this learning has helped us reflect and feel for ourselves what it means to belong to a community. It’s also helped us recognise the importance of light, hope, and togetherness in different cultures. Diwali’s theme of unity reminded us of the joy of shared traditions and respect for diversity.
