Year 3: Finger Knitting & Poetry

Year 3 have just completed their multi-media artwork inspired Jennifer Wheatley’s Through the Window series. Year 3’s imagined rooms open onto snowy Alpine peaks, blossom-filled gardens, bustling cities, serene beaches and even the vastness of Outer Space!
In our recent hands-on Maths Explorer session, the class worked with counters, multi-bricks, bar models, arrays, dice, pens and paper to solve tricky problems on the theme of fractions. The session ended with a competitive board game “with a twist” where players had to answer questions about ‘fractions of amounts’ to gain points and move forward. Year 3 impressed us with their creative and efficient scoring methods!
As part of a community art project, Year 3 learned to ‘finger-knit’ and wove words into poems inspired by The Lost Spells. Their collaborative nature-themed piece is proudly on display at the Victoria Art Gallery until October—do visit if you can!
Year 3 loved their surprise mid-summer Forest School session! From clay printing and weaving to pond dipping, butterfly spotting and swing-making, it was a joyful afternoon of nature, creativity and play.
And finally – under blue skies and the iconic backdrop of the Royal Crescent, the whole school came together for a joyful sun- filled Sports Day. The morning was filled with determination, teamwork, excellent sporting skills and smiles all around.
