Year 5: Music, Math & Swimming
Year 5 have had another busy and productive term across the curriculum.
In Music, we have been learning to play the ukulele, developing our understanding of pitch and chords while practising several songs. The children have shown great enthusiasm and growing confidence in their performances.
In Science, we have continued our learning about forces by carrying out investigations into air resistance and friction. Through practical experiments, pupils made predictions, recorded results and discussed how different forces affect movement.
In English, we have been exploring Tom’s Midnight Garden. Using the text as inspiration, we have developed our writing skills through informal letter writing and thoughtful book reviews, focusing on expressing opinions and supporting them with evidence from the story.
In Maths, we have been learning about negative numbers and applying this knowledge in a range of problem-solving activities. We have also been practising how to convert between different units of measurement accurately and confidently.
In History, we have studied the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods, comparing how people lived during these eras with life in the Stone Age and Iron Age. The children have enjoyed exploring the changes in tools, homes and daily life across these important periods of history.
The children loved sports day! I was impressed with their determination, resilience and their sportsmanship throughout. They did themselves proud!
Year 5 have continued to make excellent progress in their swimming lessons this term. The children have been developing their confidence and technique in the water, practising a range of strokes and improving their stamina.
Well done to all of Year 5 for their hard work and enthusiasm this term!
