Year 5: Time Zones, Healthy Meals & A Trip

Another fantastic few weeks from Year 5!
In English, we have been writing biographies about Benjamin Zephaniah. The children enjoyed learning about his inspiring life, achievements and passion for poetry and equality. We carefully used all the features of a biography and used detailed language to retell the key facts about his life.
In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of coordinates, translation and reflection. The children have practised plotting points, moving shapes and describing positions accurately using mathematical vocabulary. They have shown great perseverance when solving a range of reasoning and problem-solving activities.
In Science, we have been learning about the Moon and exploring why we have day and night. We used models to explore how this happens and used data to find out about how much daylight countries get around the world.
In Geography, we continued our work on Time Zones. We answered the question: Can you time travel in the UK? We also learnt about how time changes as we travel around the world and discussed different time zones and why countries experience different times of the day.
In RE, we explored what happens in a Gurdwara and learnt about the importance of worship, community and equality within Sikhism.
One of the highlights of the term was our visit to Beckford’s Tower. We enjoyed the amazing views from the top of the tower and learnt about its fascinating history. The children showed great enthusiasm and curiosity.
In PE, we have been practising and improving our athletic skills. The children have worked hard on their running, throwing and jumping techniques while showing determination during lessons.
We also successfully completed our healthy salads. The children worked hard on ensuring they had as many of the food groups as possible and thoughtfully evaluated their work.
It has been a wonderful and busy term. Well done Year 5 for your continued hard work!
